Our Cauliflowers

Today we picked and  ate a yellow cauliflower from our garden. We tasted it raw and everyone liked  it. Connor thought it tasted cheesy, creamy and a bit spicy. We also ate some raw white cauliflower.  It tasted a bit bitter then we cooked it and made cheese sauce. Everyone had a second bit.

Reading in different ways

In the autumn we joined with the nest door class and had a treasure hunt that took us looking for clues around the playground. It was so much fun. Once a week our reading buddies join us from the main school we share books and talk about what we have read.

Fun in the playground.

We enjoy mixing and playing in the playground at Riverhills.
We can be climbing or playing ball with our mates.

The other day lots of us had fun with chalk and the path outside looked lovely till it rained.

One day we made up a game on the swinging log. We were on a boat rocking at sea and searching for treasure.

Learning happens in many ways

It looks we are “just” having fun and Shelley and the grown-ups in our Room do try and make fun happen
BUT
when we play with  shaving foam

or explore in the dry materials to find hidden objects

or roll bottles filled with interesting things

we are taking turns, using our senses in different ways and practicing our fine motor skills. Sometimes the grown-ups relate it to our maths or topic work.

We don’t care we are having fun while we learn.

How does our garden grow?

We are really enjoying the class garden. We've put lots of compost into the soil; autumn leaves, our classroom food scraps that were collected in the Bokashi bin, even horse pooh from a farm. The worms will turn it in to food for the plants.

This term we have picked silver beet and parsley to be used in cooking. The silver beet soup was not a success
but Deema had fun with the blender.

We also picked lots of radishes and ate them.

We made fishcakes full of mashed potatoes and then mixed in lots of parsley from the garden and served them with freshly steamed silver beet. We all wanted more.

Soon the broccoli and cauliflowers will be
ready. Yum Yum.
